Moments are little pearls that we get as gifts from God. But I did not realize it overnight, or after an enlightening lecture by a visionary, or a visit to a pilgrimage.
It all happened in a moment. How long is this moment - fraction of a second or a minute long? Well, the duration is about as much as it takes for you to smile. It’s about as quick as a beat of your heart.
The beauty is in the abundance that is available to us. The challenge is in realizing it. The journey towards this realization is tormenting and boring.
Life is not a book, or a painting or a well-stitched dress – it’s not a city, or a person or a mountain. Wouldn’t it be easy otherwise, to call it beautiful or ugly? Life is a stock of millions of moments that you spend walking in that city, watching over that mountain, flipping the pages of a book, feeling that dress on your body.
Maximizing the joy of each moment is a victory. Coming out of a tearful, angry or a violent moment is a victory. Not letting your remaining moments get tarnished and rotten is a victory. And victory calls for a celebration! Celebration will bring in more moments of joy and smiles. Another victory!
That day on my drive to work, during my chain of thoughts I suddenly thought of my favorite saint and at that precise moment an auto rickshaw moved past – and I saw the picture of the Sai Baba pasted at the back of the auto, right above that little black window on the yellow strip above.
And I smiled. What I felt in that moment was an innocent, carefree elation.
As ordinary as it may sound, or maybe profound – that moment awakened me to the most basic and precious fact… there is God inside me and that’s why this life is beautiful.
God bless you, lots of love and light upon us.
