The law of Karma cannot be thought without its relation to present time as well as past unknown roads of timelessness. Karma is a buzzword among youngsters and also accepted by modern thought and people who are non- Indian. This serious word "Karma" from Indian philosophy and vendentta is used very commonly in our daily mundane life but not always in reference to good karmas. When people say this bad thing happened to me cause of my Karma, they are referring it in a negative way. This is very common mistake we do without understanding the concept. Karma also refers to good things in life. I was lucky to be a student of philosophy and have teachers whose books are appreciated among abroad readers too. I am proud to be student of Dr.Dharmaand Sharma and Dr.Rekha Jhanji, who taught me concepts of Indian Philosophy. The word Karma (also law of karma) originated in the Vedic system of religion can be traced back in early Upnishads. The law of Karma in simple words can be described as cause and effect.
In simple words Karma is outcome or reaction of actions, words, thoughts, deeds...It also refers to the principle of causality where intent and actions of a person influence the future of that person. So, good intent and good deed contribute good karma and future happiness, while bad intent and bad deed contribute to bad karma and future suffering. In this way Karma in the present affects our future.
But this become complex and unexplainable cause it is not that simple and straightforward like 2+2 =4.
Cause the Karma is not most of the time instant. Karma done in present not only shapes our future in current life but future lives too. The circumstances that we feel are beyond our control involves Karmas done in past (this life as well past lives), what we call prarabdh karmas. Karma is the physical, mental and supernatural system of neutral rebound, “cause and effect" that is inherent in existence within the bounds of time, space and causation. So there is instant Karma (reaction of an action instantly) as well implies reincarnation where there is no definite time rather a state of timelessness. This means my thoughts and deeds of past lives will affect my current situation. For example when I look back in story of my own life, I feel there were choices I made consciously and also there were gifts and people who came into my life to support me without my conscious efforts. I consider them reward for my good deeds (karmas) done in my past lives.
Here my logical mind cannot explain many things/incidents/people happening in my life that is beyond time and space. So, reincarnation implies a cyclical understanding of time instead of linear understanding. This believes that the soul migrates through many different lifetimes to balance its karma.
In west people tend to think of time in a linear fashion -you are born, you live, then you die. So, Karma can be related to both time as well as timelessness. Our epics explain different aspects of Karma. It is very vast philosophical concept.
Sri Ramakrishna Paramhamsa declares," To tell you the truth, this world is God's Maya. And there are many confusing things in the realm of Maya. One cannot comprehend them. One can by no means say that "this" will come after “that" or "this" will produce "that".
I personally feel we should become more conscious of the present moment become more aware of our thoughts, actions, deeds and words. Lets do good actions, think positive and speak positive and polite words. Being in here and now and by taking responsibility of our actions is all that is in our hands. Let us sow our karmas consciously.
