Moldavite cannot be explored without acknowledging the metaphysical and magical aspects of crystals. This green glassy stone from the sky is one whose purpose is to make us aware of our connection to a world that lies outside our logical definition of the “real” world. It is also a very rare stone and is getting rarer because it is found only in (erstwhile) Czechoslovakia, near the Moldau river. It is a tektite (from the Greek tektos meaning molten) formed of silicon dioxide, aluminium oxide and some other metal oxides and impurities. Tektites are natural glasses thought to be formed from interplanetary collisions, and moldavite is assumed to have originated from the crash of a large meteorite approximately 14.8 million years ago. This new age sounding stone was however, quite well known and prized in ancient and medieval cultures. Called “agni mani” in Sanskrit, it was used across the world for tools, jewellery making and as protective amulets. Throughout the middle ages it was associated with the Holy Grail and only the nobility were allowed to wear it. Czech brides were gifted this stone as a betrothal gift for happy relationships. Because of its rarity and the fact that it will soon become extinct, authentic pieces are very hard to find and expensive. Caution must be exercised when buying this stone especially online, as fakes abound. It has a rippled surface with craters. If the piece on sale is too large or shiny smooth it is likely a fake. Up to 3 grams is what you are most likely to find (and afford!). Pieces larger than 10 grams are rare and expensive. If the price sounds too good to be true it probably is!
Magic is a two edged sword and moldavite energy is too magical and intense not to be felt. It is a swift acting stone and the term “moldavite flush” describes some people’s first reactions to the stone: a feeling of heat, headache, nausea, images flashing in the mind: though not all people feel that. A majority of the people soon get adjusted to its frequency and don’t feel these symptoms; some never react in the first place. It affects everyone differently. Only about 10 percent continue to remain sensitive to it. Everyone seems to report vivid dreams and good dream recall, because it is the stone par excellence to connect us to metaphysical dimensions; and dreams, though more commonly linked to submerged aspects of ourselves in this “real” world, are also believed to connect us to our “other” self. People have reported it as very useful for astral projection and connecting to spirit. It enhances any meditation experience.
At a more immediate and practical level, moldavite brings to light the cause of any disease and aids in releasing it. It brings to surface quickly and brutally whatever is blocking our progress at a spiritual level. Sometimes this may correspond with our idea of what is blocking us in the material world as well. For example, it may help remove people or situations who no longer serve us. Old friends may come back into our lives. We may be forced to abandon unhealthy behaviour or habits. Signs and sychronicities become more common. We may be led to meet people who we need to, professionally and personally, at that time. It might be a good idea to use the stone at intervals till one gets totally used to it.
As pointed out before, take it or leave it, magical moldavite can only be described in these extraordinary terms.
